Toner has three main purposes:
- It restores pH balance to your skin.
- It cleanses the dirt and grime from deeper in the skin.
- It preps your skin for following products such as serum or moisturizer.
If you’re already using a toner and your skin appears oily, you’re using the wrong one for your skin. Some will strip skin of the natural oils which leaves it feeling too dry right after. This causes your skin to produce more sebum, that natural oil to keep it supple, to compensate for the dehydrated feeling.
Other times, you might be using the wrong moisturizer or cleanser that adds too much moisture or not enough. Any of these things could set off an imbalance. But now that you know, you can get your skin back to a healthy condition.
Cleansing and toning are important for obvious reasons. We must get rid of the bacteria on our skin to keep it free and clear. The problem there is that like in the gut, there are good and bad bacteria on our skin’s microbiome.
