How to Get Rid of Dry Skin Around the Nose

It can happen to the best of us, dry skin! But what if your face is only dry in certain areas? Well, that’s called having combination skin. You may have heard the term but perhaps dismissed it because many believe that only the T-zone can be oily and the cheeks and jawline are dry. This is not always the case. Combination skin itself is based on genetics, there is no one true answer as to how or why you have this, but of course, like anything else skin-related, we can combat this issue…together.

Combination skin is a mixture of both oily and dry. With dry or oily skin the solutions are usually pretty black and white, but with the aforementioned, you have to find the middle ground. What works for both and what can achieve great results, fast. So how do you know if you have combination skin? Well, a quick trip to take our skin type quiz will let you know in as little as 3 minutes. But here are some signs:

  • You see the shine in some areas and dryness in others
  • The pores on some areas of your nose look large
  • You deal with dandruff
  • You get both dryness and breakouts

If this sounds like you then let’s chat. This can be the cause of the dry skin around your nose, but there are other reasons as well. Perhaps you take long and hot showers, you’re dehydrated, the weather is quite cold, you have a skin condition, aging, UV rays, or allergies – I have oily skin, and sometimes when I constantly blow my nose it can lead to the peeling of the skin around my nose. Rubbing and wiping the nose with rough handkerchiefs can irritate the surrounding areas, too. Allergies and sneezing can cause the same problems.

Now you should have a pretty good idea of what you’re dealing with and we can offer some relief. When you have dry skin – whether in general or just around your nose, be sure that you are using the right products. Chemical-rich skincare products or harsh cleansers can cause dry skin to form around this area. We recommend hypoallergenic products such as our Encapsulated Retinol Serum – the serum is an imperfection eraser that repairs the skin, no matter the ailment, and right now the travel size is just twenty bucks! Super worth it.

Something else that will no doubt work for you is a humidifier. If you live in a place where the humidity is low or the air is dry, you should have one of these handy. It will keep the air moist which will help to reduce symptoms of cold or allergies and prevent your sinuses from drying out. We talk about this one regularly here at AnaK Cosmetics and it’s the importance of staying hydrated. Drink more water than you normally do as this will hydrate your skin from within. Studies have shown that drinking adequate amounts of water can prevent the drying of the skin, especially sensitive areas around the nose.

You can also look about using sunscreen! We are avid users of sunscreen here and advocate for it regularly. Our recommendation, since you may be troubled with combination skin, is the Matte Finish Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40. What a difference this will make. Tinted. A sheer facial mineral sunscreen that offers cosmetically elegant sun protection with a matte finish. Matte finish layers invisibly under makeup to replace one’s foundation primer. In other words, this sunscreen rocks, and you will for sure see a huge difference.

Lastly, some natural remedies can be used. You can apply extra virgin coconut oil or olive oil to the troubled areas, shea butter, and jojoba oil as well. The emollients in these oils are natural moisturizers that can repair dry and flaky skin around the nose. If you’re still having trouble, feel free to speak with Anakarina today by scheduling a consultation.
