What is a Balanced Lifestyle and Why is it Important?

Welcome back to our natural skincare blog where this week we are diving into the importance of having a balanced lifestyle. Having great skin is not a miracle, it takes work and the right care to keep it healthy and glowing. Many extrinsic factors can cause our skin to have issues – UV rays, pollution, stress…to name a few. The first step to having healthy skin is knowing your skin type and opting for a regimen that works with your skin rather than against it.

Not only should your skincare work wonders for your skin, but your diet plays a huge role in it as well. Finding the best fruit for the skin is like finding the best dress for date night. Fruits for glowing skin are: low in sugars, have a low glycemic index, low glycemic load, are packed full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, and have healthy fiber. So what fruits can you eat for clear skin since having a good diet is important to maintaining a balanced lifestyle?

Strawberries – Strawberries help to keep the skin young and youthful and the redder your strawberries the more antioxidants they have.

Cherries – Cherries are a powerful source of antioxidants. Fruits are great for anti-aging. Cherries have natural sugar they can channel the right way. Plus cherries are anti-inflammatory, making them good to consume if you suffer from acne, eczema, rosacea, dry skin, itchy skin, or psoriasis.

Blackberries – Blackberries are a great fruit for glowing skin as they’re an important source of vitamin C, vitamin K and manganese. Vitamin C as you may know is great for helping skin heal, plus evening skin tone and manganese is needed for your body to make superoxide, which is good for anti-aging.

Avocado – In avocados you will find vitamin B5 as in skincare as panthenol which can help speed up your skin’s metabolism and help keep your skin hydrated and glowy. Vitamin B6 helps balance sebum production—all in all, it’s great for glowing skin.

In addition to these great fruits, it is important to note that smoking can contribute to wrinkles. Smoking makes the skin look older and narrows the tiny blood vessels in the outermost layers of the skin, which decreases blood flow and makes the skin paler. Smoking also damages collagen and elastin – the fibers that give your skin strength and elasticity. In addition, the repetitive facial expressions you make when smoking – such as pursing your lips when inhaling and squinting your eyes to keep smoke out – can contribute to wrinkles.

Managing your stress is another way to have a balanced lifestyle. Uncontrolled stress can make your skin more sensitive and trigger acne breakouts and other skin problems. Make sure to get enough sleep, set reasonable limits, scale back your to-do list and make time to do things you enjoy.

Lastly, be sure to treat your skin gently. Limit bath time as hot showers and long showers or baths remove oils from your skin. Limit your bath or shower time, and use warm, rather than hot water. Avoid strong soaps – here you can learn about the use of Black soap – that can strip oil from your skin, instead perhaps try a mild cleanser. After washing or bathing, be sure to gently pay dry or blot your skin with a towel so that some moisture remains on your skin. If you have dry skin you want to moisturize according to your skin type. For daily use, consider a moisturizer that contains SPF.
